Mario Ferrante | Surprised by flagrancy of dreams
On Friday, Nov. 12, Edarcom Europa Gallery, at 12 Macedonia Street in Rome, will open the exhibition “Sorpreso in flagranza di sogni,” a solo show by Master Mario Ferrante.
On that occasion, the artist will preview his book “Diario di un ritrattista” published by Gruppo Albatros Il Filo, to the gallery’s public. Instead, the official presentation will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the Apollo Hall of Castel Sant’Angelo. In this first literary work, Ferrante traces the vicissitudes and places that inspired his paintings, filled with the poetry and charm of the evocative atmospheres of Brazil, the land of his childhood.
In the more than 30 works selected for the exhibition, the viewer will have the opportunity to rediscover Ferrante’s stylistic evolution over the past 20 years. His language, at first close to a more realistic figuration, gradually becomes influenced by a personal informality of representation, realized through the use of spatulas, ideal for conveying dynamism to the composition.
Mario Ferrante was born in Rome in 1957. Among the most significant milestones of his career are his participation in the Alitalia per l’Arte project with exhibitions in the Freccia Alata halls of the John F. Kennedy airport in New York, Malpensa airport in Milan and Leonardo Da Vinci airport in Rome, the exhibition at the National Art Club in New York (1999), the exhibition Maschere ed anime at the Maschio Angioino in Naples (2003), Ubique vacuum at Palazzo Venezia in Rome (2007) and, in the same year, Le ombre della croce del Sud again at the Maschio Angioino in Naples, Sinfonia di Berlino. Negro no coração at the Brazilian Embassy in Germany (2010) and, in the same year, with Work in progress. A bênção da mãe de santo again at the Museo del Sannio in Benevento, and again Ventre molle. Naples as Rio at the Castel dell’Ovo in Naples (2013) and, in the same year, Beyond the Sky. Air and the Heart at the Brazilian Embassy in Italy. Three years later with Love at the Time of Falling Stars at the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague (2016) and finally The Dialogue of Contraposites. The protagonists of the 20th century at the Reggia di Caserta (2019).
